Connotations!

</pimp>

Personally, I always hear nothing but good about this con and the apparently fabulous threesome who run it...

Oops?

I appear to have a ticket for The Hub. It's entirely [livejournal.com profile] lonelybrit's fault. [livejournal.com profile] lonelybrit and [livejournal.com profile] alyse and [livejournal.com profile] the4ts. Not my fault at all.

::grin::
moonlettuce: (Torchwood: Tosh)
Showmasters are running a Torchwood con, and I wanna go!

Tickets go on sale tomorrow and I'm all, "I get paid tomorrow!" and "Naoko!"

Wants!
moonlettuce: (Atlantis PoO)
And the ticket confirmation for Peg3 dropped into my inbox today. Which means I, [livejournal.com profile] temaris, [livejournal.com profile] seiyaharris, [livejournal.com profile] saffronra and [livejournal.com profile] the4ts are all breathing sighs of relief...

For those people going to Peg3, has anyone received their tickets in the post yet?

So, I went to Collectormania in Manchester at the weekend and took a lot of bad photos (my camera is very much of the suck). However, some of them turned out not so bad, so I've decided to inflict them on you *grin*

Totally graphics heavy under the cuts.

Jason Momoa and David Nykl's talk )

And to end, a really bad photo of Dominic Keating and Adrian Pasdar )
moonlettuce: (Bunny!Doctor Who)
So, we went to Collectormania. [livejournal.com profile] alyse and I drove down Saturday, stayed overnight in Manchester and drove back today yesterday.

Dudes!

Torri Higginson! David Nykl! Jason Momoa! Peter Davison!

Hee!

I took about 160 photos - most of them crap since my camera is very much of the rubbish.

I'll crop and post the better ones tomorrow later today when I get back from work.

Wheeeeee!
moonlettuce: (K-9 v2)
I'm seriously tempted to go to Collectormania in Manchester next Saturday. Torri Higginson is going and I need her on a couple of SGA shots to complete the signatures on it. David Nykl is also going, as is Jason Momoa.

And Peter Davison. Dude! Five was my Doctor!
moonlettuce: (Bunny!Bah)
So, I've had to wait until now to try and book train tickets down to Peg3 as GNER only hold tickets up to three months in advance, and already the cheapest ticket available is £93. Each way.

O_O

Sod that for a game of darts.

*logs into ba.com*

So, [livejournal.com profile] connotations had a vid show again this year, and included in among the vids were two of mine. They went online yesterday, so I'm inflicting them on sharing them with you guys :-)

Right-click and 'save as' please.

Gotta Be
Fandom: SGA
Pairing: Several implications, but like Tem said, it's more of a bring your own subtext.

The Wanderer's Heart
Fandom: Tremors
Pairing: Tyler/El Blanco*
Yes, this is the vid I've been threatening everyone at Connotations with for about three years. Yes, I finally did it. Yes, this is actually the pairing I ship. No, I don't have any shame. (And, no, it's not meant to be serious.)

* Dudes! We're a proper fandom with three writers, three stories, several drabbles and a vid. At this point, I'm seriously considering an archive...
moonlettuce: (Flower)
So, I'm also modding the following panel at [livejournal.com profile] connotations:

Looking for the slash? Or just finding it? Is everything slashy? Or are there some things that it just aren't slashable?

And once more I turn to you, dear flist.

Do you think that we, as slashers, automatically look for slash in new fandoms because we're so used to seeing it in the ones we're already in, or is the slash just there?

Do you think there are any fandoms that just aren't slashable? Or does not seeing the slash just mean we aren't trying hard enough?

Are there any fandoms where you don't see it, even though others do? (For example, there are people who don't see it between Sheppard and McKay for SGA, or between Mulder and Krycek for XF, yet both of those are the most prolific slash pairings for their respective fandoms.)

Give me your thoughts :-)
moonlettuce: (Bunny!Cabbage)
Dude! The gods of Royal Mail love me!

A parcel arrived for me today and I open it to find a totally funky knitted bowl from [livejournal.com profile] zortified for the fandom Pay it Forward meme. *glomps Zort* I love it! Although I totally can't decide what to put it in. I'm all, 'Ooh, those! No, those! No...'

Also, a couple of weeks ago I ordered some stuff for the [livejournal.com profile] connotations con packs and then proceeded to panic when I found out about all of the strikes going on. So, I was resigned to them not being here in time. However, tonight there is a knock at the door and our next door neighbour has taken in a parcel for me. And, lo! For we have con pack things! Yay!
moonlettuce: (John Constantine)
Well,[livejournal.com profile] connotations now has some bound con zines and the rest of them are sitting loose-leaf in a couple of boxes to be done over the next couple of days.

Yay, con zines!
moonlettuce: (Death of Rats)
Okay, so I'm modding the 'Things That Annoy Me' panel that's running at [livejournal.com profile] connotations, and I don't want it to be just me standing there, ranting and frothing at the mouth. What I was thinking was a panel of what annoys us in fandom, and why they annoy us.

So, my question to you is exactly that.

What annoys you in fandom? Why does it annoy you? (Or is it one of those annoyances that you don't have a reason for, it just bugs you anyway?)

For me, the big one is author's notes that say 'I've never seen the show, but...' And it annoys me because what I'm reading (even if this isn't what the author intended) is the following:

- I don't care about the show enough to actually watch it.
- I don't care about my story enough to check that my canon / characterisation is okay.
- I don't care about the people who are going to read my story enough to check that my canon / characterisation is okay.
- I'm better than you are because I don't need to see the source material to write beautiful fic that everyone should love.

I write because I love the shows and I write because I love the characters. And I read for exactly the same reasons. What this means is that when I read the latest SGA epic, I want to recognise John and Rodney and Teyla and Ronon. I don't want to read Author B's interpretation of Author A's versions of those characters - especially if Author A's versions are already seven steps to the left of Whacksville. And because emo!cutting!omgsofatanduselessandnobodylovesme!Rodney bugs the crap out of me anyway, without other people thinking that's the characterisation they should base their McKay on.

Basically, for me the bottom line on this one is: if you can't be bothered to see the source material for the fandom you're writing in, I can't be bothered to read your story. Because my time is finite, and, hey, I'm probably not missing much.

Also: the word 'ficcy' drives me insane. But that's one of those irrational annoyances. You're reading NC-17 rated fic, people, stop speaking like six year olds!

So, yeah, hit me with your annoyances *grin*
moonlettuce: (Chibi!Rodney)
You can tell [livejournal.com profile] connotations is getting nearer when [livejournal.com profile] temaris and I ring each other four times in less than one hour.
moonlettuce: (Connotations)
For those people coming to [livejournal.com profile] connotations, the list of possible panels is up here and ready to be voted on.

The panels run on a 'whatever wins the vote' basis, so if you see something you want to see at the con, then vote for it.

You have to be registered for the con to be eligible to vote.

Also: Gimme vids!
moonlettuce: (Connotations)
Connotations 2007 is having a vid show.

At least, we are if we can get more vids than we have now.

If not, it'll be a very short vid show.

Or, it'll be a very long vid show consisting of what I have now and anything I vid between now and then.

I remind you, I have Tremors and I'm not afraid to use it.

Vid for me, people. You know you want to *waggles eyebrows in what I hope is an encouraging way*

(*See, Tem, it's not the subject line I was going to go with *grin*)
moonlettuce: (CharlesErik movie!verse)
So, my feet hurt, my arse hurts (I've been walking or sitting on the ground for two days except for the trains, so stop thinking that, ya pervs...), but gods, it's been fun.

Me, Bumblebee and Patrick Stewart's arse... )

Now, before I go, [livejournal.com profile] z_rayne and [livejournal.com profile] ravurian, can you both please send me your addresses ([livejournal.com profile] z_rayne, I don't think I've got your new one), because there were a couple of occasions where I saw something and totally thought of you *grin*
moonlettuce: (AlexKrycek)
So, after plugging in M's work laptop to the 'net connection in our room, we discover it's computer specific, and since I'm too cheap to pay again, this sees me back down in the lobby for surfing *grin*

I totally missed registering tonight as I kinda fell asleep. (I think my body is still partly on UK time.) So, it's up early tomorrow, get breakfast, register and then see what's going on. At least, that's the plan at the moment; it'll probably change depending on what time I actually do get up.

And I've had my first comment of someone saying I sound like I'm from Harry Potter. We were getting stuff from 'In-N-Out' when the lass behind the counter asks where I'm from, and then says she thought it was England because, "I was watching Harry Potter with my little brother earlier today and you totally sound like that." *grin* (However, this does not mean I'm going to suddenly produce pictures of me half naked and fondling a horse. Because that would be wrong, in more ways than one.)

It's been quite funny because, over the course of the day, the demographic of the people sitting with laptops in the lobby has subtly changed and skewed towards women sitting with laptops and randomly grinning as they read something.

Ah, slash fen, you'd know them anywhere *grin*

So, we're sitting in the lobby of the Marriott in Ventura, and three of us have laptops and one of us has a PSP and we're being very sociable not speaking to each other *grin*

The flight over here was fine. I was awake for about 23 hours before I finaly flaked at 6:30pm US time. Then the phone rang at 12:15 heralding the arrival of M, so we stayed up and chatted for a little while before going back to sleep until about 7am. We've got today to mooch about as the registration for con doesn't open until this evening.

And then we get to talk about porn. Yay!
