I'm going to be away overnight tomorrow due to work and this was the process I've just gone through while packing my bag:

Notebook? Check.
Actual book? Check.
Other notebook which has half-written story in it that I might finish? Check.
Is it worth taking another book with me? Okay, I'll only be gone one night, but still, you never know what could happen? Check
Third notebook with yet another half-written story in it that I might finish? Check.

::sits down to check e-mail and surf online::

::Two hours later::

Me: I'm pretty sure I've forgotten something.

::continues to surf online and check LJ and ooh, new fic--::

Me: Bugger! Clothes!

Fear me, people, for I managed to pack five books into my bag for one overnight stay and forget the actual clothes I'll need to wear.

I haven't actually updated in forever (well, okay, two weeks), but not because of anything horrible. I haven't had the desktop on for a while and have been surfing via the iPad, but not actually updating anything but Twitter.

Christmas was quiet and full of presents from awesome friends who know what I like (giant creatures eating people, robots and apocalypses - sometimes all in the same movie).

New Year contained an [livejournal.com profile] alyse, a [livejournal.com profile] temaris and a [livejournal.com profile] catwalksalone, along with a rather delicious gingerbread house that we built :D

What I didn't do in the couple of weeks I had off work was to write all the stories I wanted to write for [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking proving, once again, that the one thing I really excel at is procrastination.

Also, I have cold and am full of snot.

The Good: I have completed all of the shopping/making-of-stuff that needed to be done for [livejournal.com profile] beren_writes Christmas party. This makes me more organised than I have been in years.

The Bad: I set my alarm for arse o'clock this morning to go into work for an early meeting, only to have organiser of said meeting turn up 40 minutes later, looking confused as to why people were waiting for her and saying that she 'must have hit the wrong time for the meeting to start' when setting it up. Grrr...

The Good: As people on Twitter already know, I have decreed Vaseline to be awesome *\o/*

The Bad: I'm still ensconced in a blanket of apathy when it comes to writing. I want to write, I just can't seem to make myself actually do it.

The Good: I'm taking the last two weeks of the year off work. The plan is to do nothing but veg on the couch and watch DVDs. So far, I'm approving of this plan.

The Bad: No one seems to want to play in the [livejournal.com profile] erik_charles 12 Days of X-Mas comment!fic meme. This makes me sad.

The Good: I get to see most of my awesome people this weekend :D

On space pirates and kink memes:
I should be writing space pirates, so why am I looking at the XMFC kink memes and going 'I could do that... And that... And that one, too...'

On decapitated snails:
Also, there were decapitated snails in my street last night. I'm not sure if someone had been at them with a shovel, or if this means there's some sort of psychotic snail out there who has fashioned a sword from bits of his own shell and is now going around lopping off the heads of his brethren*. Dude, it's hard being a snail.

On tattoos:
Various people (okay, two people, anyway) have posted on LJ/Twitter about getting XMFC-related tattoos recently. Both are quote based and making me want to get the two lit tattoos I've wanted for years. One of them is 'Denn die toten reiten schnell,' which is a quote from Dracula. (Well, technically, it's a quote from Bürger's Lenore, which Stoker then used in Dracula.) The quote translates as 'For the dead travel fast' and I fell in love with the line when I first read Dracula way back when.

The other lit ink I've always wanted is the quote from the gates of Hell from Dante's Inferno. For this one, though, I swing between having the entire quote, or just the last bit. The last three lines are the ones I'm in love with, but my completion self would want all of it done.

Quote under the cut, for anyone interested )

And then, of course, the question is where to put them and what font to use.

Also, part of me is strangely amused by the thought of having 'Peace was never an option' wrapped around my ankle.

* Does this also mean there's a snail equivalent of the BAU, going from garden to garden and profiling killer snails? "I say male, young, definitely a slow mover. Mother issues, possibly..."

Ah, new fandoms. My desktop wallpaper is no longer Dean/Cas, but now Charles/Erik.

It's weird, because I'm thinking of X-Men: FC as a new fandom but, technically, X-Men is my oldest fandom. I read my first X-Men comic when I was seven (and then got said comic signed by Chris Claremont last October when he appeared at London Expo). I've pretty much been collecting since then.

I read X-Men fic, I'm on some comms and I've had at least one X-Men icon in the mix during my entire life on LJ. Hell, the first fanfic I wrote was an X-Men/Highlander crossover (complete with required Mary Sue ::grin::), but there are so many times I don't think of it as one of my fandoms. Which is daft. I mean, I have the comics, I have the figurines, the artwork, the absolute utter and total desire to stab Ben Raab in the face with a spork for what he did with Excalibur when he was writing it.

When you look at it, X-Men's been a part of my life since I first picked up a comic and read about Ororo being seduced by Dracula. My two oldest OTPs are Logan/Ororo and Charles/Erik.

So, new fandom? Old fandom? Maybe I should just call it an absolute certainty and be done with it ::grin::

So, I realised I haven't posted in, like, a bazillion years. Well, okay, in a week, but you know what I mean.

My life's pretty much consisted of work, work, work for the past month, as I've been transferred onto a new team that's so far behind on what they're doing that it's not even funny.

I've experienced epic fail this month with [livejournal.com profile] mmom, as I've only actually posted four stories. I need to write more! This shall be my resolution*. Especially since I've signed up for [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang.

Also, I have the weird urge to vid Love The Way You Lie (Part II) for Dean/Cas.

* Unfortunately, I'm really crappy at keeping resolutions...

So, on Friday I went to see Red Riding Hood with a friend from work (and was all sad!face at the fact that none of the adverts were for Thor, Captain America, Green Lantern or X-Men: First Class). It was kind of cheesy in a Twilight-for-werewolves kind of way (although with less sparkles and more fur) but I enjoyed it. I did, however, start mentally recasting it with the actors from Supernatural as I was watching it, which meant it became this epic Jensen/Misha with unrequited Jensen/Jared fic in my head.

Of course, the problem with that is that it made me think that I really must write the werewolf Jensen/Misha fic I've got partly plotted out (this also contains no sparkly werewolves). Which then led me onto thinking that I want to finish the SPN!Tremors fic I never got done for [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema. And then there's the 007!SPN fic that I have in my head. Luckily, I've signed up for [livejournal.com profile] deancasbigbang, so I'm guessing one of them will get written for that. Although, knowing me, I'll write something entirely different. Maybe I should just do a 10,000 work PWP ::grin:: Just how many way can Dean and Cas shag, anyway*?

I mooched into town on Saturday and bought cat food. Fear me and my exciting life.

And today was the epic day of all days. Today I was triumphant. Today, I managed to get the cover off the lightbulb in the bathroom. Today, no one had to pee in the dark** *\o/*

Also, it's full moon tonight. Rawr.

* This may need a poll...

** Unless they wanted too, which is an entirely different matter.

So, it seems like an age since I've posted anything of substance. Er, mainly because it has been an age since I've posted anything of substance.

Let's see, what's been going on in my life? Well, I've been ill. Over the past month I've been in varying stages of snot and pain. The cold was fun, especially when it affected my ears (I have an inner ear imbalance), which meant that every time I sneezed I fell to the floor in a state of dizziness. This made walking across the floor prone to all sorts of hitherto unexpected hazards, such as the time I missed the corner of the table by about an inch. (But, hey, at least I didn't add concussion to the list of woes.) The cough is still lingering and was supplemented last week by a kidney infection which made moving a particular joy and bending over pretty much impossible. The upside is, the antibiotics appear to have kicked that one in the balls, so at least I'm not wincing every time I move.

Being in such a state of bleurghy meh means that I've done pretty much sod all work on my [livejournal.com profile] spn_cinema story and am looking at the approaching deadline with something akin to hysteria.

Apparently, tonight the moon is closer to the earth than it has been in 18 years. I'm wondering if this is making all the werewolves more hyper.

I've decided on what I'm doing for my friends for Christmas this year. I've had epic!fail on Christmas presents the past two years and this year shall be different. Of course, it's only March, so that could all change somewhere down the line.

I've been in a really funny state of mind recently and can't decide if my complete and total apathy over stuff is a phase or a symptom. It's like I want to do stuff, but just... don't.

In less pathetic and more fannish news, Hawaii Five-0 continues to be my happy place. It makes me happy in my face ::grin::

I've also taken to bathing in the near dark, lit only by the soft glow of ambient light. This isn't anything to do with setting a mood and everything to do with the fact that my bathroom lightbulb has gone and I've no idea how to remove the damn cover for it. It turns, but doesn't come off and there seems to be no screws in there. Luckily, the iPad with the brightness turned up all the way and sitting on the toilet lid, actually doesn't do too bad a job of lighting up the bathroom, so at least I can see where the sponge is...

So, to sum up: illness, no writing, werewolves, presents, happy face and bathing in the dark. Oh, and work's being a bastard.

Since that's about it, to end this rambling post of ramblingness, have a bunny with a waffle on its head... )

So, my weekend pretty much broke down into the following:

  • Driving to [livejournal.com profile] beren_writes's house with [livejournal.com profile] alyse. The journey's kinda strange because it's motorway for most of the way and then the last 30 minutes, you literally take a turn off a roundabout and hit werewolf territory. Large hedges and tiny roads and doing it in the dark is seriously creepy, and I wouldn't have been surprised is a large wolf had pounced out at us at any point. (Well, I would have been surprised, truthfully. I mean, it's not every day a werewolf jumps out at you for no reason.)

  • Christmas presents! The reason we were there was for Beren's annual Christmas party. It was on Saturday as December of last year was totally booked up ::grin::

  • More sugar-based goods than anyone knew what to do with. Seriously, when fangirls cater, they bloody well cater.

  • Tessellating fangirls. (There was an actual dry run of how people were going to sleep in order to maximise the floor space:people ratio, including people having to get up and shuffle around based on who generally gets up to pee in the middle of the night)

  • Discussions of having a barbecue around the theme of a zombie apocalypse, which somehow evolved into the theme of zombie apocalypso, which is much the same but with more steel drums.

  • Monkey pants! (Which, hitherto, render all other arguments invalid...)

  • Being muchly amused by the fact that someone apparently guessed which Secret Angels fic I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] deancastiel, not by reading the story, but by the fact that I used ellipses in my summary. (Which also made me stop and go, well, actually I do use them a lot... ::grin::)

  • The Secret Angels and [livejournal.com profile] deancas_xmas reveals both happened, which means I can now post my stories here and post my 'What I Wrote in 2010' list :)

  • In conclusion: Awesome weekend was awesome :)

Hello 2011

Jan. 1st, 2011 06:38 pm
moonlettuce: (DangerMouse: DM & Penfold)
I saw the beginning of the year in on Twitter swapping between comments about Jensen licking champagne and cherry pie off Misha, and bouncing along to the Top of The Tops2 80s special on BBC2 (which I watched through the website).

So, it all boils down to seeing the new year in with porn and music in the company of excellent friends. If the rest of the yea goes the same way, I'll be more than happy with it :)

All that's left to do for the rest of the day is the reveal posts for [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa and [livejournal.com profile] santapocalypse, and then speak to [livejournal.com profile] hils and [livejournal.com profile] oddlyfamiliar about something I mentioned on Twitter last night, to see if they're still up for it.

I'm planning on doing the usual 'What I Wrote in 2010' post, but since some of the exchanges don't do reveals until later in the month, I'm going to wait until I can put everything in there.

I'm also debating on starting my [livejournal.com profile] mmom fics, even though it's still four months away.

Which means, to sum everything up: it's still all about me ::grin::

Yes, really...

Seriously, you could have an entire collection of horror based sex toys. It'd be awesome ::grin::
