Thinky Thoughts on SGA and Duet

So, there's a poll going on here asking which episode of SGA is the slashiest*, and someone mentions that if you're a McKay/Beckett shipper then it has to be Duet.

Only, this is what I can't get. I understand that the McBeck people seem to tout Duet as their episode, but it's not Rodney.

People talk about the slashy kiss in Duet, and the one my mind thinks of is when Cadman!McKay kisses Katie Brown. Because, bodies aside, it's Cadman kissing Katie.

I see the final kiss as Cadman/Beckett, not McKay/Beckett.

Is this me coming at it from a McKay/Sheppard point of view? From a 'Dude, he's not going to be kissing Beckett because he's in love with Sheppard' angle? Or is it actually me going, well, it's not a McKay/Beckett kiss because, seriously, it's not a McKay/Beckett kiss?

*Also, my answer to this? Dude! Every single scene that John and Rodney are in.

I totally don't understand that either. Same with the not!Sheppard/not!Weir kiss in The Long Goodbye. It's not them! You can't use it to support your ship.

I mean, if Cadman had kissed Sheppard in Duet I'd certainly have squeed over the visuals, but - it wouldn't have been a McShep kiss. The McShepness would have been all in the aftermath - and that'd have been fic, not the show.

I think what they're using to support the claim is the idea that it wasn't really Cadman, but McKay, using Cadman in his body as an excuse to kiss Beckett.... Or at least that's the rationale that I've heard, but it makes no sense to me.

Ah, but in Sheppard's head, that's totally McKay kissing Beckett, and that's weird and wrong. Really - caught on camera and everything.
