Hamlet and non-existent bars...
Jan. 4th, 2009 01:19 amSo, there was a plan for meeting up. It was a plan of great plannishness. And it totally fell through when a text from
ravurian revealed that the bar we were going to be meeting in had closed down. Sometime in the last three weeks, which was when he was last there.
Some scrambling around later and we all met in a different pub for laughs, snacks, drinks and at least three people on standby to text us when they found out who the 11th Doctor was going to be.
And then we trooped to the Novello.
libitina found us without hassle, asking if we were waiting for a random American. Which we were ::grin:: We got inside and sat down - all 21 of us - and after a few moments a woman walked out on to the stage.
"I'm the producer," she said (although for the life of me, I can't remember what her name was), "and I'm just here to confirm that tonight, the role of Hamlet will be played by David Tennant..."
At that moment, she was the most popular person in that theatre.
Even though the RSC had written and said that La Tennant definitely wouldn't be performing between Dec 26th and Jan 3rd, he came back early and performed tonight.
David Tennant and Patrick Stewart. On stage. Together.
And they were fucking amazing.
I'll probably do a further post about this, but for now my mind's still stuck on Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Yay, he's better! And...what the heck was the audience reaction like when the announcement was made? I somehow can't imagine it was particularly restrained, or anything...

Yeah. Saw it a few weeks back - shortly before David's back problems caused him to pull out - and I couldn't agree more. Wonderful piece of theatre.

Date: 2009-01-04 11:05 am (UTC)I only saw Patrick Stewart when I went to see Hamlet a week before Christmas. But Ed Bennett was great, too.
