Mixed Feelings

I'm seeing elation on my flist about the guy whose been drafted in to write the script to the sequel to X-Men: First Class being Simon Kinberg, who wrote Sherlock Holmes.

The problem? Well, he also wrote X3: Last Stand which, as anyone with a grain of taste will tell you, is a steaming pile of crap that needs to die in the fiery pits of hell.

So, yeah, his history with the X-Men is not a good one here. I am, however, totally willing (and would be delighted) to be proven wrong.

It's been ages since I read it, but there was something from an interview with the people who were involved in the scripting for X3 that basically said they wanted to go ahead with the Dark Phoenix stuff set up at the end of X2 and the people in charge at the studio basically said no, do another Magneto as the villain film because it's worked so far and will work again.

Does that help at all?

Unfortunately not ::grin:: My biggest issue (although not my only one by far) was how the dealt with the Phoenix arc, not within the confines of the story but how they change Phoenix's sacrifice to be entirely about Wolverine when, in the comics, it's nothing to do with him at all. I just can't see anything good coming from the pen of a guy who was involved in the movie that so thoroughly fucked over one of the defining moments in X-Men history.

Of course, I am totally willing to be proven wrong here.

Considering I couldn't stand Sherlock, I'm not terribly enthused. The one comment I saw that gives me hope is that he'll probably just be the first one to take a crack at it. *crossing fingers*

They truly did ... The real question is did they fix it or did they distort the one true idea?
