Jan 19th was the second out of a threeway for [personal profile] morganoconner with "Tell me all your feelings about Coulson. Or Clint. Or possibly even Clint AND Coulson. *chinhands*"

Clint. Oh, Clint. How do I even start this.

Okay, so I'm going to break this up.

Earth!616 (Main comic canon)

First off, you've got to love someone who becomes inspired by Iron Man to be a hero and actually ends up being mistaken for a criminal. This, strangely, pretty much sums up Clint Barton.

My full on love for Clint in 616 has been gleefully fed by Secret Avengers and Hawkeye.

Fraction is writing Clint is ways that just makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Yes, Clint has made some douchetastic moves in his past. The entire thing with Bobbi and the Phantom Rider was wrong in a way I can't quite describe, and his romantic relationships with women show that he has a disconnect when it comes to intimacy.

But there's just something about Barton that makes me want to hug him. And then ride him like a pony.

Also, I can't mention 616 without paying homage to the fact that they gave us naked Clint tied to a chair and being licked in a badwrong way by Venom.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Dark Avengers:

And for those who would like a closer look:

Earth!1610 (Ultimates canon)

The thing about Ultimates!Clint is that he's just so beautifully strong and yet beautifully broken at the same time.

There's a point where, after the loss of his entire family, he doesn't care if he lives or dies. He becomes brutal and ruthless, and although it's painful to watch, it's actually sort of perfect, in a way. (Although, that may just me my 'Fuck, Clint's so pretty when he's hurting' thing.)

1610!Barton is pretty much 616!Barton dialled up to levels of 'Fuck you, world' extremes. This is the guy who escaped being held captive by ripping out his own fingernails and using them as projectile weapons.

He's not stable due to his entire family being killed, and he's effectively one step off completely psychotic at times.

The other thing I love about 1610!Barton is the way they have him as one of the founding members of SHIELD. There's a comment he makes to Fury about "Remember when it was just you and me, Nick..." and I just love that they gave him that.

Earth!199999 (MCU)

So, the very first appearance of Clint in the MCU just made me giddy. Yes, it's only 47 seconds in Thor, but it's 47 seconds of awesomeness. Sassy and quick, and you see who he is in only a few words.

The downside of the MCU is that he was so tragically underutilised in the Avengers.

I see people saying that Hawkeye wasn't necessary in The Avengers and why was he is in. I've also seen people saying he was useless and stupid, which actually makes me want to shake people.

Hawkeye is not stupid

He works out trajectory and wind flow and angles in his head, at speed, in the middle of battle. And before anyone says Tony does the same, he actually doesn't. The suit, aka JARVIS, works that out. Clint does it himself.

We don't know about Clint's background in the MCU, so we don't know if it's more like 616 or 1610, but if we're smishing canons together,. Or if their going to take back of Clint's comic history and merge it into the MCU, then Clint is someone who pulled himself up from a absolutely shitty background to being part of an elite team (Strike Team Delta) and being someone who runs with superheroes. And that's something you've got to respect him for.

And because I couldn't fit it anywhere, but it needed to be included, have some bonus naked!Clint:
