Totally and completely nicking the way I'm doing this from Tem. (It's a shared braincell, so I'm assuming the way she did her post was at least half my idea... *grin*)

Fandom: So, my main fandom of this year will come as no surprise to anyone who has ever taken even a passing look at my journal layout. The immense shiny for the past 12 months has indeed been Atlantis. I've written more in SGA than I have in any other fandom I've been in, and I think that's just because the characters all but beg you to tell their stories. My McKay love is a hold over of his appearances on SG-1, and John Sheppard was just the icing on McKay the cake. There isn't one character in this show that I don't like and I want to hear more about them all.

We got Doctor Who back! We've waited longer than we wanted to for this (longer than we should have, because Paul McGann doesn't count), and we weren't disappointed. RTD is a fanboy, and, by gods, it shows. It shows because he loves this show and he loves its fans, and that can never be a bad thing.

Conventions: I did various conventions this year: LFCC, Connotations, Serenity, Serenity2, Birmingham Memorabilia, Birmingham Memorabilia again. As much fun as the first time I did BM this year (have BSG cast, will travel!), it's so much better when you have other geeks with you. Probably the most fun I had a con this year was at LFCC. (I would say Connotations, but that was bounce, fun and work, whereas LFCC was just the bounce and fun side *g*) The reason LFCC was so much fun? [livejournal.com profile] temaris, [livejournal.com profile] seiyaharris, [livejournal.com profile] saffronra, [livejournal.com profile] katemonkey, [livejournal.com profile] fides, [livejournal.com profile] dolores and [livejournal.com profile] probodie. And the Jazz Hands. Oh, who could forget the Jazz Hands? Connotations was (ignoring the work side of it) quite the most fun someone can have over a weekend. It was a weekend of laughter, porn and interpretive dance - often all at the same time ;) So, yes, the conclusion to this is that cons are fun, but cons with friends who of the same mindset as you are fucking hysterical and absolutely unmissable. I think this is one of the reasons I'm so looking forward to the Atlantis con next year.

Writing: It's been, surprise surprise, mainly Atlantis, and pretty much McShep. I love my boys, and I want them nekkid and having sex as much as possible *g* However, there was also some Angel and Buffy, some Tremors text!fic, some Doctor Who text!fic, and a SouthPark Mag7 that I'm taking no blame for at all.

Work: The main thing that happened at work was that I've been on secondment as team leader for my section since last year and a few weeks ago permanent positions came open. The three team leaders who are all on secondment (myself included) went for them, and we all got them. So that was a yay! (I'd still like better wages, but a yay nonetheless...)

Films: I've been steadily attempting to collect David Hewlett's entire back catalogue, and this year helped in that *g* (Which is code for saying a bought a shed load of stuff I'd never seen because DH was in them. I was bloody gobsmacked pleasantly surprised at Constantine, which I actually liked. In no way shape or form is Keanu Reeves anything like the proper John Constantine, but I enjoyed the film enough to see it twice in two days and buy it when it came out. Serenity was probably the film of the year that I had the most invested in. I saw it on one of the previews before the general release, with a bunch of other Firefly fans, and what is there to say about Perfection? I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with Joss Whedon all over again. I saw the movie a few times (at least once while wearing a Jayne hat) and each time I found more in it to love. I saw Revenge of the Sith twice. The first time was with [livejournal.com profile] temaris at a half past midnight showing the day it came out, where we turned to each other when it over and both said "Well, that didn't suck." The second time was with a group of people in London a few days later. Chinese buffet and Star Wars with a bunch of geeks, and then back to [livejournal.com profile] mandragora1's place - and a great time was had by all.

The Big 3-0: I was 30 this year. The day in question fell on the Friday of Connotations, and I was surprised with a party, cake and presents (and interpretive dance from [livejournal.com profile] seiyaharris). There is nothing like celebrating with friends, and I will always remember that day :D

Other Stuff: The other stuff I did in 2005 included getting another tattoo and a laptop (which I immediately called 'Sheppard'. I also named the external harddrive 'McKay' - because McKay only ever gets turned on if he's plugged into Sheppard ;)

I also made my first music vid!

I caved and bought a permanent account when LJ put them up for sale earlier this year. I figured so much of my online activity revolves around LJ, I may as well just say 'sod it' and buy the thing when it came up *g*

So, that was 2005. A year later and we're a little older, a little wiser, and it's still all about the shiny ;)
