I was reading an article on the stupid lawsuits people have filed (and won!), and there's such gems, as:

* a convicted bank robber who tried to escape from prison by scaling a 40ft wall, only to end up falling off and breaking his leg. He then sued the state's prison authorities, claiming that they hadn't told him climbing the wall was dangerous. He won and received £12,000 in damages.

* a teenager who sued his neighbour for running over his hand in his car, and won £45,000 plus medical expenses. Not so silly, you think, until you find out that the teenager had been trying to steal said neighbour's hubcaps at the time.

* a woman in Texas who sued a furniture store because she fell over an unruly toddler. She received £470,000 compensation, even those the toddler was her own son.

* a guy who bought a Winnebago motor home and on his first trip, set the cruise control at 70mph then left the driver's seat to make a cup of coffee, only for the vehicle to crash. He sued Winnebago because the owner's manual didn't say that he couldn't leave it to drive itself. He was awarded £1,250,000 plus a new motor home.

So, this got me thinking. I'm going to sue Blueyonder. And I'm going to sue them because I was flicking around one of the websites that they host and I found all this gay porn and it's simply traumatised me for life...

Does anyone else fancy doing the same, we can make it a mass law suit {eg}

Note: and yes, for those of you wondering, all the cases I mentioned involved Americans...

Chill. It wasn't meant to be a dig at Americans, but rather at a justice system which lets people get away with stuff like that. I mean, I'd like to think that if someone walked into a British court and said that he wanted to sue the manufacturer of a vehicle because the manual didn't tell him it wouldn't drive itself and he left the wheel and it crashed, that he'd get laughed out of court as opposed to a whacking great payout. Because common sense should still count for something. And if someone is stupid enough to try to leave a car/van/motor home to drive itself and it crashes? Well, it's his own bloody fault. The gods don't reward idiocy, and the courts shouldn't either.
