Well, fuck.
Jun. 19th, 2005 07:20 pmThe roof in my bedroom is leaking.
Apologies to
temaris for bailing on the telephone call, but my roof has water coming from it! Waaaaaahhhhhh!
On the upside, it was over the bed and not over the computer or the comics. (A girl's gotta get her priorities in order, right *grin*)
*sigh*
Bollocks, the toilet roof seems to be leaking too.
*glances upwards*
Yeah, laugh it up.

Date: 2005-06-19 10:47 pm (UTC)Unfortunately an emergency plumber wouldn't be any use. It's not that the pipes or water tank have gone. (Although, considering the water tank is downstairs, it would be rather impressive if that had been the cause ;-) This afternoon we had a *massive* freak thunderstorm. It was raining solid for over two hours. The people in the next street from us were wading in the street and the water was over their ankles. The drains couldn't cope with it; at least a dozen roads around here flooded and unable to have cars go through them. It must have been a good few inches of water that fell.
We're seeing tomorrow about getting someone out to check the roof, since it looks like we've found another couple of places where it leaks. (We had one leak fixed not all that long ago, but it's an old house.)
Ah well, at least it's stopped raining now. (Although the washing up dish is staying where it is, just in case *grin*)

Date: 2005-06-20 08:06 pm (UTC)And this is the same afternoon I was baking in the heat in the garden, and thinking "I'm so glad, I thought we'd never get summer this year"?
Then again, it might be the humongous freaking downpour I was staring at a week ago, which has decided to take a trip abroad.
Either way, buckets and blankets offered!

Date: 2005-06-21 12:23 pm (UTC)how bad was it, i saw some of the pics in the news from newcastle but i thought you would survive actual flooding 'cause there is enough of a slope down to the coast.
parents are in cornwall this week, hope they have a dry house to go back to :)

Date: 2005-06-22 11:03 pm (UTC)Your parents' house is fine, though. And the cats were inside. (I got caught in the rain coming back from feeding them. When I was there, Thor was sitting by the front door wanting to go out, and when I opened it and he saw the rain he looked at me as if to say 'Don't bloody think so' and went back to eat biscuits ;-)
The problem was that so much water came down in such a short time the drains couldn't cope. Once the rain stopped the flooding cleared very quickly, but until then it was like little rivers and lakes all over *g*

Date: 2005-06-19 09:19 pm (UTC)I'm guessing you didn't get to go out?

Date: 2005-06-19 10:50 pm (UTC)Although I still went out. *grin* There's nothing we could do about it, so I left a washing up bowl underneath and buggered off to watch 'Batman Begins' (which was really very good :-)

Date: 2005-06-21 06:58 pm (UTC)Send the rain down here, we need it! We've had scorching heat and I've had to put ice in my snake's water bowl to keep his vivarium cool, plus a fan and a wet towel over the front and keeping his light off... Sorry ;)
