Day 5 sees us with [livejournal.com profile] soupytwist's topic of "Things you learned from running a con? Best and worst things about it."

Things What I Learned From Running A Con

- [livejournal.com profile] temaris, [livejournal.com profile] lost_house and I have a friendship that survived 10 year of doing this, which means we've pretty much got a friendship that's going to survive anything, including zombie apocalypses, megalodons and velociraptors.

- People trusted me to make sure they have a good weekend. Which is terrifying.

- Porn brings people together.

- If necessary, I can photocopy 18,000 pages of porn over a two week period without work ever finding out about it.

- Wrangling fandom really can be akin to herding cats at times.

- No matter what the pairing is, someone ships it.

- Interpretive dance is ageless.

- The height of my acting career really was playing a pterodactyl in one of the pimp sessions.

- You really can make a one hour panel out of a topics that's just "Avengerrrrrrrrrs..."

- If you build a raffle table, they will come (and leave things on it)

- If you put Tem, Seph and me in an office supply store, there will be insane giggling. And post-it notes.

Connotations will always hold a place in my heart. It started out as a post on LJ asking friends if they'd be interested in a weekend gathering and ended up being a slash con that people traveled internationally to attend.

I have ten years of awesome memories out of this. Some of them even have video.

I remember the Saturday night of the very first Connotations, where Tem and I sat in our hotel room at about 2:00am and just looked at each other and went "Holy fuck, we actually did it."

It wasn't all easy. We has to finance some of the first one ourselves, and we went into the later ones knowing that if we didn't have enough people coming, we'd be liable to make up the difference with the hotel. But it was worth it.

Through the ten years I met fantastic people and made some amazing friends.

I never set out at the start of my fannish life to run a slash con, but that's what happened, and I wouldn't change a single minute of it.

Also, wow, I never actually thought I'd get to use this icon ever again.
