For those that use eFiction, do you recommend sticking with version 1.1, or going with what the website calls the mostly stable version 2.0?

Yes, I'm aiming to get BYC up and running within the next couple of weeks. This may well kill me...

Well, I've just upgraded two of my archives to 2.0, the two that aren't live so I can test it out. So far, I like it. The hardest part is changing everything over from 1.1, so far as I've seen. Granted, since those two aren't live, they don't get any traffic, so I don't know how they'll perform yet, but it's got some really nice features.

I don't suppose that was entirely helpful. Sorry. :-)

I've upgraded adn except for accidently deleting one of my categories, the upgrade went just fine. (um the deleting my category was my fault) I like the features in version 2.0 and have a lot of traffic so for me it was worth it.

So what features are in 2.0 that aren't in 1.1? Can you upgrade on top of your existing database?

You can upgrade on top of an existing database. I did that with the angst archive.

there is a whole list of new features.

One of things I liked was a search result higher than 50...in 1.1 you can only get 50 results when you search. 2.0 also allows people to review at the end of the story...and if you want the rest of the list I recommend checking out the forum they did a lot of upgrading with 2.0...just be aware there are a lot of skin changes.

Well, the ceiling on search results is settable by editing the code. I'm not really a php programmer, but this was a fairly straightforward modification. Also, I don't have reviews enabled - I use eFiction as a recs database engine rather than as an archive.

But I'll look at the forum and think about it.

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] moonlettuce, for sneaking in here like this - but I saw your question on friendsfriends and I was interested too!

yeah checking out the list is the best way to find out what new changes are in the 2.0 version. http://www.efiction.wallflowergirl.com/forums/index.php

I'm not sure where the list is of changes from v1.1 to 2.0 and I'm sneaking away from the kitchen so I don't have time to look for it. :( gotta go back and help prepare the turkey.
