I think I was 24 or 25 when I was going home from Uni [I started after working for 5 years]. I arrived at Birkenhead station and went to get on the bus to Bebington to be asked by the driver in a broad Scouse accent "Are you a scholar?" so the final word sounds something like "skola" with a very short "o" and "a".

I had to admit I wasn't and pay the full fare. Still it's nice occasionally.
