Well, I've just had to cut up my credit card.

[livejournal.com profile] beaniesheppard posted to [livejournal.com profile] sga_noticeboard noting that some people who bought tickets to Wolf's Meet The Hewlett's even next month have reported fraudulent activity on their cards.

Bugger, thinks I and off I pop to check online.

And, sure enough, over a hundred quid's worth of charges that aren't mine. Well, not unless I recently decided to install a phone line through an American provider, among other things.

I phone my credit card company, who were more than helpful. They cancelled the card and have flagged and removed the fraudulent charges from the account. So, luckily for me, this issue was pretty much fixed within 30 minutes of noticing it. I won't have a credit card for the next week or so, but since I only use it online that's really not a problem. And hey, at least it wasn't the debit card...

Anyone who bought tickets should check their statements to make sure they haven't been hit, as well.

For those who are interested, [livejournal.com profile] beaniesheppard's post on what's happened is here.

However, to look on the bright side, it's like I've just said to [livejournal.com profile] mandragora1: it's a bugger, but it could have been a lot worse.

Thanks for that (and the voicemail *g*). I had a fradulent transcaction on my debit card but that was last month so didn't bother to check until you said everything was in the last week. I know there had been talk but Amazon had been touted as another possible source of the problem. Anyway, went on-line and, sure enough, I've been had for over £100 (transactions from Malta, Holland and various states in the US). Got my card stopped, new one to be sent to a branch near I work as I'm off on hols next Friday and have to speak to their Fraud Office tomorrow morning so they cans send me a form so I can get reimbursed for this.

Bryan's closed the store down whilst they are investigating this

What a pain! But, as you said, it could have been a lot worse!

The thing is, if it hadn't been for [livejournal.com profile] beaniesheppard's post, I probably wouldn't have checked until the next time I went in to pay off the card.

But, yes, could have been much worse.

I received my monthly statement today and thankfully there are no fraudulent charges on it--yet. I'm going to keep an eye out and also this would be the perfect time to finally get motivated and set up online account checking...

Thank you again for the heads up!
