Is the exhaust on a car still called the exhaust if you're in the US? Or is it just the tailpipe? Or something different?

IE The stick of dynamite went into the tailpipe.
IE That car is so loud it needs a new exhaust system. He must have no muffler.
Hope that helps. Most of the time US and Canada are pretty much the same.
