Okay, so I'm not in the Supernatural fandom and I've never actually seen an episode of the show, and yet I spent five hours last night reading Dean/Castiel fic. And then joined the comm.

Personally, I'm blaming [livejournal.com profile] shetiger ::grin::

You has some linkage that can help other poor people to read the Castiel slashy goodness? Yes?

Am not in the fandom either and am a scaredy cat if there was one (so yeah, the eps freak me out), but season 4 so far has been one damn amazing trip.
Honestly you can start watching from 4.01 and still get the whole thing, they do flashbacks thingies often enough to get the gist and there's ANGELS!!!!!! (Although ep 3.16 was the most hilarious/agonizing/heartbreaking thing in the history of heartbreaking eps known to man).

And you HAVE got to watch this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bgd30bjQmes

Hmm, you know I don't think you can start watching from 4.01 and get all the nuances. You won't have a clue about the strength of the Sam/Dean relationship and that it's actually screwed up in Season 4 if you don't know all the backstory. If you don't watch it from the beginning you won't find ep 3.16 to be agonising or heartbreaking because you won't get it.

Flashbacks won't do it IMO.

I like Castiel but Dean/Castiel doesn't really do it for me, as I don't think it can compare to the relationship the brothers share, even without slash. But I did think the latest episode gave some interesting hints as to Castiel's relationship with Dean. *g*

I don't get Dean/Castiel. Maybe it's my general block with gay sex in SPN fandom -- they just seem straight to me, I can't help it! -- but I can't see it even though I'm a diehard fan of the show and a slash whore. Is it just a prettiness thing, in your opinion? Why do you like the pairing?

Also, watch the show! It starts off cheesy and kind of clunky but it definitely gets better.

Tell you the truth, it worked for me (mostly cause I was bored through season 1 and 2 and haven't watched 3 yet) not watching all the eps and then watch all of season 4 so far and like it, but it might be cause am weird.
It helps that I have people on my f-list who live and breathe this show and I read their posts thus getting a lot of details through them.

Still I think that 3.16 is heartbreaking no matter how you see it, which is of course a testament to how much emotion the guys put into that ep.

Am mostly not interested in the slash in this fandom and god knows I don't mind the Wincest, mostly cause I don't "get" the stories at times and probably cause I haven't reached the point of being obsessed yet.
Dean/Castiel is just a side thing that sounds interesting given how much Castiel "leans" on Dean *g* I also think that quite a few people will jump on that pairing, especially the ones who are uncomfortable with the incest. It should make for interesting times.

Have a look at the reply to Becca for the link ;)

And I wouldn't start partway through because you don't get the history of the characters if you do that. So, if I do start watching SPN, I'll go from the beginning :)

::g:: I wouldn't start watching partway through, anyway - for exactly the reasons you say. You don't get the nuances if you're coming in three seasons after everyone else :D

I'm viewing yesterday as my 'I wanted to read something new and oooh pretty...' night.

::g:: There's no specific reason. it was just that I fancied reading something different last night and a link to a Dean/Castiel fic appeared so I gave it a shot. Five hours later I've read a little more than one story ;) I was aiming for a 'Claire is shallow, ooh pretty' night last night, apparently ;)

*g* As I said above to Mandragora am weirdly wired that way. I get into shows half way through something and then it bam it hits me and am hooked :)

Still if you start from the beginning keep in mind that it gets better and there's angels in season 4 and also there are support groups out there *g*

Thanking you kindly for the link.
