Best comment seen on the Sherlock Holmes trailer on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUQbmFAE5WI):

I hope this isn't just a British James Bond..haha

O_o

o_O

::facepalm::

I'm bizarrely reminded of that radio show where a woman rang in to accuse Tolkien of ripping off JK Rowling when one of the Lord of the Rings movies came out. There was dead silence from the hosts before one of the went "Er... you do realise..."

*DIES! dies of laughter!*

OMG, that's even better than the student I had who tried to argue that the Grendel in Beowulf was inspired by the troll in LotR. Some of this is because I think the student knew what he meant to say but just got it backward (then again, he wasn't particularly bright), and also because this was a paper only he and I ever saw, so he didn't make an ass out of himself on YouTubenation.

Also "British James Bond"? What? Does this person realize that James Bond is, by definition, British?

I think what amuses me most is that, given that there is a Bond film called 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', exactly which 'her Majesty' did he think it referred to? Because it makes me wonder about what certain American Presidents must have got up to in private.

::grin:: I was very O_O at the comment. The very next comment is someone pretty much going, er, James Bond *is* British...

Maybe they misheard it as 'On Madge's Secret Service' and thought James Bond is actually part of a super secret troup of ninjas working for Madonna. It could happen...

It's always funny when someone does that. It's the reaction of 'Oh, honey, no...' that you just seem to instantly get ::grin::

It was a case of wondering if this person had ever seen any of the Bond movies and, if they had, had they not noticed that they were all based around the British secret service?

I don't know, I mean, do you really have to see the movies to know that James Bond is British? I didn't see Star Wars until I was older, and I knew that Darth Vader was Luke's father. I also didn't watch Bond movies until I was older either, and I still knew beforehand that Bond was British.

This person is either really oblivious or really dumb. Or both, they can always be both.

::grin:: True.

I think I'm going for both dumb and oblivious. That way, I'm covering both my bases ;D

I have to admit to sniggering at the comments on the Holmes trailers too. Ignorance abounds. I particularly like the ones who claim there were no action sequences in the books and the ones who claim there were action sequences in the books but they were never shown in any previous Holmes movies or tv series. We really have some Holmes connoisseurs there. ;-)

I know! The comments were as much fun as the trailer. It was like fandom_wank on YT ::grin::
