moonlettuce: (Comic: John Constantine)

There's a post on [livejournal.com profile] spnstoryfinders that says the following:

I am in the mood for a movieverse!Constantine/Supernatural crossover. I've already read through the tagged archives on here and read the ones that appealed to me. I don't want the comic or story verse or whatever it is because I have 0 knowledge of it. Besides, from the one Dean/Constantine fic I saw that was the story verse, Keanu Reeves makes a much better J.C. :D

What? Keanu Reeves makes a better John Constantine? Seriously? Keanu Reeves makes a better John Constantine than John Constantine?

This is John Fucking Constantine. Keanu Reeves came nowhere fucking close...

(Yes, I'm totally posting this here to stop me commenting on the post...)

... she hasn't even read thecomicorwhateveritis - and only "seen" a fic - so better than what. Bah.

The moment you say "Keanu Reeves", you lose credibility, lol. I mean, with the right director, he often does well-I liked "Point Break", "My Own Private Idaho", "Johnny Mnemonic", and his bit part in "Dangerous Liasons", back when, in spite of myself. I never saw "Speed" or "Matrix".

But he's a pretty wooden actor, usually, with little vocal inflection. He'd have done well to take voice lessons, imo.

I was so, so tempted to post a reply, but I couldn't get past the "Bitch, please..." that was in my head ;D

He's actually really good in The Watcher, where he plays a serial killer, as that wooden edge works in a fantastically creepy way.

And, the thing is, I actually like Constantine as a movie. He just ain't my John...

Oh, no, you didn't!

I admit, I lack my former Hellblazer cred because I had to stop reading for financial reasons around issue 130 or something, but come on! Keanu Reeves!

(I'm too scared to see the movie. I was less afraid of someone screwing up LoTR than I am of someone screwing up Hellblazer. Go figure.)

I like that movie, but...comicverse!Constantine is way cooler.

Heh, I know the feeling (and learned it's better not to hit "reply" all in all).

Yeah, I surprised myself with how much I enjoyed the film, even though its existence meant that there would never be a proper, UK-set, scruffy-blond-Scouse flavoured Constantine (possibly played by Paul Bettany) failing to save his friends and lovers from pain and horror in Thatcher's Britain.

But Keanu BETTER THAN COMIC JOHN?

Hell to the no.

Hell to the absolutely no ::grin::

If you don't view the movie as being related to the comics, it's actually quite enjoyable, but Keanu Reeves is, in no way, John Constantine.

(I totally had to sit on my hands to stop myself from replying to that post ::grin::)

John would kick Keanu!Constantine's arse ::grin:: (And then possibly shag it...)

So, if I went to see it without refreshing my memory of anything Hellblazer-related, and kind of pretended it was just a stand-alone movie, I'd probably enjoy it. Okay, I can live with that. :)

I love the film. I also love the comic. It is important to think of them as being TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS, though, in case your brain melts.

Exactly. They are not, in any way shape or form, connected ::grin::
