So, I'm tidying the study in preparation of friends coming up. (For 'tidying' read 'moving things out of one room and into another so people can *fit* into the study'.) So, two days and about 150 books later and the place still looks like a bomb hit it. And after I shift everything that's on the floor out, I have to dust. Damn, I just wasn't built for domesticity...
On the other hand, when I was moving a pile of papers I found a Smallville snip that I don't remember writing. So it's not all bad {g}
He shouldn't be here. Knows it with every inch of his body. Knew it when he'd first had the thought. Knew it when the bouncer smirked as he looked him up and down before letting him through the door. But he needs to know, needs to know this bit of Lex. Needs to know what could have happened that drove Lex to hide in Smallville. Needs to know the one thing that Lex has always refused to tell him.
And Clark's first thought is that it's too hot and too loud and how did Lex survive being here night after night, week after week. How did he survive in the throbbing collection of bodies, in the mass of flesh and sweat all moving as one creature. He feels out of place, standing there in his jeans and the best shirt he owns. Out of place among the leather and the vinyl. Out of place and yet feeling strangely like he belongs. Like the pounding music running through his body and the sweat pricking at the back of his neck are meant to be there. And he wonders if this is how Lex felt. If this was home more than anywhere Lionel was.
Clark has so many questions and he needs the answers. Needs them before he can take that final step with Lex. Because he wants to know Lex, to understand him, but mainly because lovers aren't meant to have secrets from each other. Especially secrets involving 3 inch scars that look like they were made by a knife. Especially secrets involving the very club Clark is standing in.
He needs to know, needs to know what happened in Club Zero three years ago. He's tried asking Lex, but the other man just told him that the past is the past. Only Clark knows that's not exactly true. Knows that the past has a habit of coming up and biting people on the ass. Clark knows Lex's life is different, knows there are a lot of people out there who would love to see Lex fall. And that's why Clark needs to know. Because if Clark doesn't know why Lex is going to fall, then how can he be there to catch him when he finally does.
