Question in the key of X
Jul. 18th, 2004 12:10 amQuestion:
How is it possible to write movieverse Gambit? He's not in the movies. So far, he's a name on a database. That's it. When you write Remy as a Cajun thief with kinetic energy powers you are writing comicverse Gambit. Who knows, maybe in the movie series he's going to be a door-to-door saleman from Queens whose mutation is the ability to turn bright purple whenever he's horny. (Okay, I know this scenario is unlikely, but work with me here.)
The only tack for saying movieverse when you write a pairing like Logan/Remy (and I'm not picking on Logan/Remy writers, it just seems to be the most popular paring for movieverse!Remy slash) is that you want the reader to visualise teh sex0r that is Hugh Jackman. Well, yeah Hugh Jackman is teh sex0r, but, you know what, so is Logan. 5 ft 3, hairy-as-all-hell, ex-Alpha Flight member Logan.
Is it that writers think they'll get more readers if they label a fic as movieverse? Is it that they've never read the comics and are basing movieverse!Remy on other movieverse!Remy fics they've read? Or is it just me being a picky cow?
Then again, I'm also the person who enjoys reading Lex/Bruce Smallville fic, and Bruce ain't appeared in that show yet. So, I guess it makes me a hypocrital picky cow, too. meh!

*is also terribly picky*

Oh, movieverse Remy doesn't exist yet, I agree. But there is also a few different comicverse versions out there so if you want to be really picky.... Me, I can't get enough of my pretty, pretty Cajun but I think the world has more than enough Remy/Logan fics without brining Hugh Jackman into it. Remy/Logan fans should be reminded that domestic bliss in the "Regan" household would probably involve a back shaving sequence. ;-)
My other favourite X-verse guy is Sabretooth -- but not the walking carpet with claws of the movie. Bleagh. My 'Tooth fic is all comicverse, thank you. I've nothing against the guy the played Sabes in the film but couldn't they have picked someone a bit wittier (and okay, I admit prettier) who could act? I nominated Kevin Nash (a wickedly pretty, blond 6' 11" wrestler of good age and build) but no one else agreed.
My other fave is Havok. *pets* Such a sweetie. Wolverine/Havok: Meltdown is a slashy scream, oh yes it it.

Y'see, my boys? Magneto and Pete Wisdom. I sincerely doubt they'll even think of Pete for the movies, so they can't screw him up. And I actually think they did a pretty good job of Erik - although I have a feeling that was mainly down to Sir Ian McKellan.
On Lex/Bruce
