Connotations
Oct. 18th, 2006 12:02 amSo, I keep thinking I should really write a con report for
connotations. And then I think that maybe I should actually also post one for last year. And the year before that.
*grin*
What can I say? The con was a blast. It started with me not realising I was modding the first panel on the Friday and beingtotally and utterly slightly unprepared. All the panels ran smoothly, with people getting involved and hopefully having a good time. I missed a couple of the panels on Sunday morning due to having an ungodly headache that had been nagging at me since the Friday. I managed to wrestle it down with tablets and an extra couple of hours sleep.
Friday night consisted of a chocolate fountain (oh, so dangerous! oh, so addictive! and with grateful and chocolatey thanks to
alyse) and the now traditional slash pictionary.
Saturday night saw Connotations very first vid show. A surprising number of people have mentioned that they want to make vids for next year, but I suspect that may be more to do with the fact that
fides gave me Tremors episodes and I'm not afraid to use them.
The fandom pimpage brought much laughter. Tem and
graculus won with their Boston Legal pimp - even if Grac refused to wear the flashing sparkly pink penises. (And, Grac, have you used the toothbrush, yet? *g*) I came second with my stick-figure pimpage NCIS and Gibbs/DiNozzo. (I think this makes it three years that I've come second. Ah, always the bridesmaid...)
fides pimped with interpretive dance,
beren_writes tempted us with singers who hump their guitarists, and
katemonkey lured people into Giles/Oz with the observation that Giles/Oz = GO!
The con closed with what I now think of as the insane raffle of DOOM! There were a lot of prizes and pretty much everyone who bought tickets ended up with something (even if they didn't want it!). Also, I really must send out the prizes for the winners who weren't at the closing ceremony. The great thing is that the raffle raised £258 for the con's charity, which is the local animal shelter.
The hotel was leagues better than it was last year, due in no small fact to a) the original events manage being back from paternity leave and the idiot who was there last year not working there any more and b) a new chef.
The thing I enjoy most about the convention is knowing that the people who have come are having a good time - that the panels run smoothly and the laughter and the porn flow freely. I like to think that happened this year, and I thank each and every person who helped make this one a one to remember :-D
