So, all the cinemas in and around Newcastle are only showing the 3D version of the Avengers on 26th April.

Because gods forbid that someone would actually not want to see a movie in 3D.

Gods forbid that someone would find wearing 3D glasses when they wear proper glasses annoying.

Gods forbid that someone with an inner ear imbalance would avoid 3D because of the risk of triggering a meniere's attack. (Sounds unlikely, but given that I once looked at a 3D photo taken underwater and was on the floor 2 seconds later, I try to avoid 3D. After all, the entire spinning and vomiting thing is so last season.)

Fuckers.

I'm beginning to think there is a jinx on you seeing anything Avengers-related. I can only assume the bad karma now is going to pay off in good karma Big Time somewhen soon.

Tell me about it! It's kind of gotten way past the funny stage and on to the 'oh god, I'm really not meant to see this movie, am I?' stage.

The Silverlink is showing it in 2D on the 27th, just not the 26th. And neither's The Gate. Nor the MetroCentre.

But that's so fucking mean. And also discriminatory. Hi! You can only watch this film on opening day if you have a healthy and functioning balance/vision system and are not triggered for migraines. Bastards. >:(

With a pretty much constant state of vertigo that ranges from "oops, moved my head too fast!" to "Hello, why am I on the floor and could you please get me a bucket?" ( I had Labyrinthitus that never went away) AND glasses I don't even want to think about 3d glasses ;-( It's Netflix and/or waiting for thing to come out on dvd for me.

Yeah, that's pretty much me with the Meniere's, which is the permanent, non-curable (except by way of brain surgery) form of labyrinthitis. It's a lot better now than it was when I first had this, thanks to ongoing tablets and a couple of operations. 3D still sucks donkey cock, though. I can do it, it's just that I dose myself with drugs first and really don't enjoy the experience.

You need these: http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/miscellaneous/e9b4/

They are glasses you wear to turn 3D movies into 2D movies.

::grin:: I already know how to turn two pairs of 3D glasses into 2D glasses so, in theory, I could make my own. Doesn't get over the annoyance of wearing two pairs of glasses, though :(

What about Sunderland or Boldon?

The Empires (both Newcastle and Sunderland) aren't showing the 2D version at all, according to the Empire website, and neither's Cineworld in Boldon. The lack of cinemas showing the 2D versions is really rather annoying.

Just a thought but ... have you considered approaching the Silverlink - as they appear to have a 2D copy - and asking them to schedule one showing on the 26th? On the grounds you set out here and that the DDA applies. So making disabled fans wait another day to see the movie is discriminatory.

You and [personal profile] catwalksalone together maybe?

Might be enough to start them thinking about the future too. As there will be other movies you want to see where the same issue is likely to arise.

I guess your council has Access Officers - ours were part of Planning but did get involved in other stuff and had a good network of contacts. So they may be able to put you in touch with others who share your concern. Organise!

Good luck.
