|----------------------------------------------------------------------------this much!!------------------------------------------------------------------|

Why? Because I've just had the following e-mail:

Soon we will be increasing your download speed to up to 4Mb. That's nearly 4x faster than your current speed (1Mb), at no extra cost.

Tem, you're already on the one above me, have they told you what you're going up to?

Oh, wouldn't that be cool? We could play the 'my bandwidth is bigger than yours, baby!' game with a side order of 'never mind the quality, feel the width!'

Um. That was an evil cackle. I already knew about the ten meg. I found a Telewest press release about 15 minutes ago and linked to it...

I knew none of you read my LJ.

Holy cow! They're apparently upgrading the 2mb lines to TEN FREAKING MB!

*takes deep breath*

I found that on a forum so it could be wrong, but he said 1 was going to four (which we know is right) and 2MB was going to 10, and anything over ten was going to ten with uncapped bandwidth...

I'm just going to have a private moment now...

Oh, wait. They're capping downloads? Cos they haven't been capped to date (says she who has had broadband since about 2001 and hasn't seen anything changing the terms and conditions).

From: [identity profile] temaris.livejournal.com
I know, that gave me pause too. It might be why they've held off on going with the 10MB cuz they need to change the terms. If they're capping bandwidth I guess I'm upgrading again *g*.

(10 meg!)

We'll have to see what cap they put on it. Paying what we do for the current 2mb lot - which is a lot more than most other people charge, but without a cap - they'd have to make it bloody huge or they won't compete at that price.

Or drop their prices ::g::

We'll wait and see.

They've never capped, and having looked into it, it seems that every service provider who offers low cost high bandwidth caps -- sometimes as little as a gig a month (plusnet's lowest bracket). That's two eps of Stargate and a few web pages! I'd be screwed two weeks into the month!

I used to think they were incredibly expensive until I realised to get the bandwoidth uncapped for what we're paying was pretty much the lowest going. I reckon the wars are going to be about bandwidth, not speed in the next couple of years.

The press release I found said nothing about capping bandwidth, but then, it might not put the pill in with the jam, but wait until we're in a middle of a jam eating frenzy.

Telewest rather than BY -- but as BY is just the internet operation of telewest...

Ah. Yes, I knew Blueyonder was just the name for the internet arm of Telewest, but I assumed that it would be on Blueyonder.

It says that the work starts this month, so it's possible that you and I haven't got mails yet because they're staggering the work. However, they usually stagger by area, so I would have expected me to get a mail around the same time as Claire, as we're in the same City. Ish :)

But we'll see.

They've been offering 4mb for a while, but haven'[t donw ten before -- it may just be taking a little longer to get the infrastructure there for ten.

I guess like you say, we'll see.

They aren't capping. Also from e-mail is:

Your service will remain completely unlimited, so you don't have to worry about how much you use the Internet or the amount you download.

Also, wonders about upgrading *g*

Fingers crossed they don't cap on the 10 mb either *g* I can't help feeling I'd end up using up teh bandwidth fairly smartly *g*

Well, if they do, then everyone will downgrade to the 4Mb service, surely. Which is counterproductive. So, I'm betting they won't.

Woo hoo!
