I have a program called DVDx....and it'll rip. You'll need some codecs like Xvid (that's a really popular AVI codec almost all avi files you find use it)
Hmm finding user friendly programs to encode your ripped DVD isn't easy. But DVDx is free and you can explore the options. If you have Ulead Video Studio that also rips and encodes.
I use 'fairuse wizard' which is great and easy and it takes time but it does everything that might possibly be difficult for you and there is a tutorial explaining it all here. Tis free and such yes:)
