So, I'm buying an external hard drive, and I'm thinking this one.

ngaio has just ordered the same one, and the Amazon reviews are positive on it.

But, for those who have external hard drives already: any recommendations? Who to go with? Who to avoid? Who sucks donkey cock like a £2 whore?

Mine is Iomega and behaves beautifully, but I've not heard anything but good of Western Digital. Unlike Maxtor, which I know of two separate people who bought it and had it go wrong, and the reviews for it on Amazon led me to believe that this was not uncommon.

western digital are generally good & that looks like a very good price for that size drive. i'm surprised at maxtor. for a long time they were the best external hard drives you could get.

I adore Patrick. I e-mailed the creator a while back, who is such a sweetheart. Part of the reason I'm planning on doing San Diego Comic Con next year is that there's usually a Patrick booth there :-D
