So, I'm writing the NaNo fic, and, although I'm in past tense, I keep sliding into present tense. Maybe I should just say sod it and write the thing in the present tense, since that's what it seems to want to do.

I find that while I tend to get the ideas in present tense and write them down like that they always feel more like notes to me and after I reread and make any changes I switch to past tense. Because, personally, I just don't read stories written in present tense - that tense doesn't allow me to get into the story the way past tense does.

It's just really weird, because some scenes feel like they want to be written in past tense and some feel like they want present. I think at this point I'm going to write it how it wants and sort it out when it's done *g*

Might make it go faster for you. And December is always for editing? But fighting the flow and make the entire thing harder to do.

And it's pretty hard at the moment. I guess I just found out that sitting at a computer and forcing myself to write really isn't how I work.

I found that out last year for sure. If I am not hooked by my story to get myself to write then honestly, I will do anything NOT to write. THat is just how I have to do it. And some years that makes getting to 50,000 really friggen hard.

JUst my personal opinion, but you always slide from tense to tense. I think you write better in the past, but it's your choice, and as someone else said, you can clean it up later. I've got a couiple of scenes written where they are partially in one and partially in the other, and I'll revert them later, because I want to get the feel down for now.

disclaimer: Bias: I really don't much like present tense stories: the tense rarely makes the difference to impoact that good writing wouldn't make, and is often distracting, particularly if you want to do any foreshadowing.

So take my advice with a pinch of the chemical compaound of your choice.

I think I'll just write it how it writes and then sort it out later. Probably for the best, as opposed to keeping slapping myself and going back and changing tenses.

And you're so right, my tense-fu is very slidey ;)
