Feeling just a little bitchy...

Okay, if you have to have 'HANKY ALERT' (yes, it was in capital letters) written on your fic, then please go away now. Seriously, the authors who have written fics that have actually made me cry are the ones that have done it subtly and didn't feel the need to write 'omg! you're soooooooooo going to cry if you read this!!1!eleventyone!'. And maybe I'm wrong (hey, it's been known to happen ;), but the only thing a 'hanky alert' serves to tell me is that the author has watched Titanic a few too many times and is going for over-the-top emo!angst fic. Which doesn't make me cry, as opposed to, well, roll my eyes and move onto the next one.

Maybe they feel that announcing that it's 'over the top emo!fic' isn't quite dignified enough.

That does of course leave the question of they think 'hanky alert' is any more dignified. Because you know? When my youngest brother was little and had a cold and his nose was more disgusting than bears thinking about, the general cry would be: hanky alert!

Somehow, I don't think they wanted boogers associated with their darling stories...

You know, I actually put a similar warning on an old fic. That fic's never been published, and every year that goes by makes me more happy about that oversight.

*grin* There are a few things that make me wince, and that was one of them. Thing is, if she'd just written 'hanky alert' it wouldn't have been so bad. It was that she felt the need to WRITE IT ALL IN CAPITALS. JUST TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE UNDERSTOOD! lol!
