Could it have simply overheated? Try leaving it to cool down overnight and see if it works in the morning.

Oh, I hope that's the case. Mainly because I'm vidding at the moment and seasons 1 and 2 of SGA are on him. And also the entire Fifth Doctor run. And NCIS. And several other things I'd really rather not lose.

Well, if the worst comes to the worst I've got all of SG:A for you and can stick it on DVD. But it may very well be that it's overheating, and if not, it might be something simple to fix like replacing the power supply or, even if it's not, the data might be salvageable without too much effort.

If it was sudden I'd have to go with the overheating or the fuse idea. Good luck with getting it back, I hope it is a simple fix.

Mine went last week too (must be the season) - it was still spinning, but the PC couldn't see it. Turned out to be the USB controller had gone and Rob changed it for one of the others at home. Very scary moment.
