Cooker woes

*smacks head off desk*

So, I bought a new cooker about a month ago. They didn't have any in the warehouse, so they said they'd deliver it as soon as they got them in and would ring me to arrange delivery. Couple of weeks pass, and I get a phone call to say, "Dude! Cooker! When do you want it?" They don't have any Saturday delivery slots left, so I go for a Thursday and take time off work. (There's also the thing about how they don't tell you if it's a morning or afternoon appointment until the day before because "that's when they're assigned," but that's another rant.)

Anyway, they come out to fit it (I have a gas cooker, so it needs to be done by a qualified gas fitter). The guy takes one look at where it's going and says, "Can't do it. You've got wallpaper."

Er, I've had wallpaper there for a good few years now, and it's never been an issue before (said new cooker is going in the exact same place as the old cooker).

"New regulations. Can't fit a cooker where there's wallpaper." *scribble, scribble, sign* "You'll need to ring and rearrange delivery."

And then he leaves.

So, I ring and rearrange delivery. For today. Then I put the phone down and curse a) the fact that I just wasted holiday from work for no reason, b) the salesman who hadn't asked if we had wallpaper, because, y'know, I could have had the room stripped in preparation and c) the fact that I'm now going to have to cancel all plans that I had for the new delivery date. (Comic mart! Transformers! [livejournal.com profile] alyse and [livejournal.com profile] davechicken!)

Thing is, I've been ill this week, so I've managed to strip the bare minimum needed to get the cooker in, (which means my scullery is now half wallpaper, half blue wall and all mess,) but no more than that.

Skip to today, when other guy comes out to fit the cooker. Along with the comment that the cooker could have been fitted without issue. Along with the comment that the first guy has done this before - given an excuse not to fit when it's actually perfectly fine. Along with the comment that it tends to happen if you're the last delivery of the run and he wants to have an early finish. Along with ringing another fitter who also said he would have fitted it. Along with saying he'll report it to his manager when he gets back.

GROWL!

This means I wasted holiday from work for no reason, cursed out the poor salesman for no reason and (most importantly) AM NOT SEEING TRANSFORMERS FOR NO REASON!

Letter of complaint? You're damn right. (Although, possibly focussing more on the 'wasted time off work' than the 'missed Transformers! Grrrr!' aspect.)

Bah.

(On the up side: New cooker! White! Shiny! Oooh!)

*stares* Seriously?! What a lazy, lying oik. I hope he loses his job.

In the meantime, you can now make non-refrigerator cakes *g*

That's... Sheesh. I hope there are big consequences for that guy, if he apparently has a habit of pulling this shit. Unbelievable.

But enjoy the new cooker, and I hope you get to see Transformers soon. Because squee!

Go for it, had a similar experience. Not only did the guy get sacked but the company he came from did the work for free and refunded the call-out charges for another gas engineer I'd had to call when the first guy told me I had a leak and switched off my gas supply Friday evening (no hot water, heating) when I didn't. You could try for kitchen redecoration.... Sticking pins in a picture of him also helps - well it does for me (grin)

Definitely seek some financial reward for your wasted time ... lets see 2*7hours* your hourly rate plus an admin charge for making the appointments sounds like a good starting point to me *g*.
