What's the Latin translation of:

All alone is all we are

I don't know what he wants it for, but I'm going to mock him for his emo tomorrow ::grin::

[livejournal.com profile] dawnfirex says "peracto solus estis (I think)" and one of [livejournal.com profile] sockherder's friends offers three options: sumus semper soli meaning 'we are always alone,' 'sumus nos semper soli" meaning 'we are always alone,' (with emphasis on the the 'we') and 'sunt omnes soli' meaning 'everybody is alone.' [livejournal.com profile] sockherder herself offers a German translation, because they have a similar grammatical structure to English: 'Ganz allein ist alles dass wir sind.'

Wouldn't it be "sumus semper soli nos?"

(I had three years of Latin but that was seven years ago, so if I'm wrong I won't be at all surprised, the above phrasing just felt better, if that makes any sense.)

Cool... I don't know if I'm deluding myself or not, but I feel as if I have a feel for languages, an affinity with words. I remember in sixth grade, everyone was memorizing the lists of prepositions in the textbook, but I knew which words were prepositions even though I couldn't explain why, they just fit... If I'd had that affinity with numbers I might have graduated with honors.

LOL sounds like someone wants to make a Nirvana t-shirt without suffering the mocking...

Except he asked me, so the mocking's pretty much a given ;)

Ah, but when he walks down the street wearing it, only the Classics geeks (AKA people like me) will be able to mock him - and he could mock them back for being, well, Classics geeks
