moonlettuce: (Comic: John Constantine)

I'm going to see Watchmen tomorrow after work. The original plan had been to go last Friday, but one of the guys I'm going with went to visit his parents over the weekend. So far the consensus of people I've spoken to seems to be those who have read Watchmen are all omg! loves! and those who haven't are er, what was going on during that?

I'm curious as to how they've pared down the story into three hours. And grateful as hell that they've kept enough in to warrant an 18 rating, as one of my concerns was that they'd sanitise it to get the teenagers in. (Because, even though I enjoyed Constantine a lot more than I thought I would, there's no way a movie of Hellblazer should have rated less than 18 in an ideal world. And Keanu Reeves isn't John. And I'm still kinda narked about what they did to Chas...)

Also? Dude, the trailers. I'm holding out for Wolverine, Trek and Transformers. Because if you're going to do the geeky fangirl overload, then you may as well do it right ;)

I haven't read the comics (or graphic novel or whatever) and I was only, "What was that?!" at one point at the end. It's a very well made movie, well constructed to tell one story that goes way back.

The trailers made me squee, so I'm just hoping I don't come out disappointed.

Same here! I am looking forward to reading it, though, to catch all the stuff they had to leave out.

They were actually pretty loyal to the source material. They left bits out but, because of the alternate ending, the bits they left out where the ones that the movie didn't need in.

I've read the comic, but only a couple of times, and not for a year or two. I'm not a proper comic book geek; proper comic book geeks of my acquaintance are a bit 'meh' about it. Me? I saw it last night and loved the hell out of it. Evidently one's mileage may vary. (But I think everyone can agree that it's miles and miles better than League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The criticisms I've seen levelled at it are generally that it's a bit too slick and shiny and misses some of the spirit of the original, which is probably fair - but it's a lot better than I'd been braced for, imho.

This! I really rather enjoyed Constantine, but it made me sad for the movie that we'll never have now, the one with John as a scruffy blond Scouser played by Paul Bettany (http://images.google.co.th/images?q=paul+bettany&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi) (or, possibly, although I'd really rather it were a Brit, but I do love him so as an actor, and, my God, he looks the part, and he's got recent Brit ancestry, so it's not inconceivable that he could manage the accent, Callum Keith Rennie (http://images.google.co.th/images?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&um=1&q=callum+keith+rennie&btnG=Search+Images)).

Y'know, I think I'd kinda possibly sell my firstborn for a Constantine played by CKR. Hell, I'd have a firstborn to sell for a Constantine played by CKR ::grin::

Evidently one's mileage may vary.

::grin:: Ain't that the truth when it comes to fannish movies ;D I'm just hoping that they don't fuck it up too badly (or, at all, really ::g::)

In IMAX, they had trailers for the new HP movie. (Personally, I would've much rather seen the Wolverine or Star Trek ones.) I have mixed feelings on the movie and have read the comic.

They showed the Wolverine trailer and I squeed so loudly the people in front of me started laughing ::g::

They also showed the Trek one, but no Transformers, unfortunately.
