So, I'm thinking about buying an epilator. Thing is, I'm a huge wimp when it comes to pain, so I don't want to pay £70 for something I'll use once and then never pick up again.

Which means the question is: does anyone have one and would you recommend it?

I use one, and have done for a couple years. I don't think the brand matters, so much, as knowing how to use it.

The first thing is - shave your legs before you use the epilator. I know it sounds weird, but if you just use the epilator first off on your legs it will hurt so bad you'll never want to use it again. But my model has two attachments - one for epilating and one for shaving. I don't do anything to my legs during the winter, then in the spring I shave my legs, then a couple days latter as the stubble comes in, I epilate. It will hurt, oh yes it will, but the thing is - if you use it regularly it won't hurt very much at all.

This is because the hair grows back at different rates, so when you epilate the third and fourth and so on times, you're actually ripping out significantly fewer hairs than that first time. But if you go four weeks without using it, you'll have to start all over again.

But understand - the first *and maybe second) time you use it, it *will* hurt. But after that, it doesn't hurt much (or for very long) at all. But it will always hurt a little, so if pain is going to dissuade you, you might not want to spend the money. :-)
