So, I went to see X3 on Friday night and I totally understand what [livejournal.com profile] katemonkey meant when she said she enjoyed it, but she wasn't sure if she liked it.

The good bits:

- Hank. I had a few reservations about Hank in this, but I adored him. I totally ignored the fact that if they'd told Hank they'd come up with a 'cure' for the x-gene, the first thing he would have actually done is get a sample and lock himself in a lab somewhere, but apart from that much love. (And, yes, when he said 'Oh my stars and garters', I may actually have meeped out loud.)

- Killing Scott off at the beginning. Totally flipped my canon-whore wig-o-meter, but for the killing of Scott, I was more than willing to just grin and go along for the ride.

- Charles and Erik at the beginning. They may as well have worn matching rings and just admitted that they were a married couple. In fact, all the way through the movie, it was Charles/Erik otp *grin*

- Chris Claremont doing a cameo. This is the guy who got me into reading the X-Men. The very first X-Men comic I picked up was written by Claremont, and I will probably always believe that no one can write the X-Men like he can.

- Bobby going to full ice. Much love.

- They didn't go Kitty/Piotr otp. Which pleases me no end as that 'ship annoys me to no end. And the Kitty/Bobby stuff was really quite cute. Although not as Cute as the Bobby/John stuff, which was so 'You're my ex, but I still like you' it was wonderful *g*

The bad bits:

- An apparent complete lack of understanding regarding Kitty's phasing powers. Matter phased into other matter and then solidified doesn't replace the original matter's molecules. If Kitty phases a person's legs into concrete, then they lose the legs. Juggernaut's molecules wouldn't displace the concrete molecules, they'd merge with them.

- BadGuy!Jamie? Er, not so much, 'kay, thx.

- Phoenix. Oh gods, where do I start? Split personality? Phoenix being the really bad tempered side of Jean? That bit I winced at majorly, but the thing that really annoyed me? Was how they killed her. The thing about Phoenix dying at the end of the Phoenix Saga was that she redeemed herself. Xavier manages to put the original mental blocks in her mind, but only because Jean helps him. That moment on the moon, when the Imperial Guard are fighting the X-Men for Jean's life and Jean turns the Kree weapon on herself to kill herself means that she takes her redemption into her own hands. In the movie, she doesn't. She stands there, totally whacked, and it's down to Wolverine to kill her. Something about that doesn't sit well with me. Phoenix didn't need anyone else to save her, she saved herself. And denying her that is wrong. It's almost like the movie has gone for the 'Ha ha! I am Phoenix and I am Teh Ev0l!' without any of the shades of grey involved.

- Callisto. First off, pretty *grin* Second off, no. If you're going to change a character that much, then why use that character. They changed her powers, her appearance. And also, Cal and Arclight working together? Considering one's a Morlock and one's a Marauder, it just seemed wrong. Although, maybe I'm just pissed that they put Cal and Storm in the movie together and they only thing they had them do was fight *g*

The nit-picky bit:

- If you're going to use characters, at least spell their names right. Especially is they're one of the main people in the movie. Erik's name is spelled with a 'k'.

The curious bit:

- The scene in the Danger Room at the beginning has a Sentinel in it. Trask is one of the President's advisors. (And I'm taking a leap and assuming it's Bolivar Trask here.) Does this mean that Sentinels have already been produced? Or does it mean that it's a coincidence that the Danger Room set them against a big robot? Maybe they were actually fighting Optimus Prime *grin*

The surprising bit:

- Vinnie Jones. I can't stand the guy, but he was actually okay. He made me laugh in places and didn't suck.

And finally, an open message to the cinema:

I don't know if anyone's told you this, but the quickest way to piss people off is to close the curtains during the scene after the credits. The fact that about 17 people all started shouting should have clued you in somewhat.

*looks back at post*

Wow! Apparently I had more to say about the film than I thought *grin*

Does he die?

I know he dies in the comic. [but then I didn't really like him in the comic - so shallow am I - besides the cool fire power.]

*naws on fingernails* If he dies, I need to be perpared. I cannot live through another Wash, even if I see it coming before he dies..

At the end he goes up against Bobby and Bobby knocks him out. Storm is getting everyone off the island, but Phoenix disintegrates a lot of people. I'm pretty sure John isn't among them, so it can easily be read that he's alive.

Hey, I'm a slasher and a shipper. I'm good at deniel. If they didn't show him dead then he didn't die. [now, that I think about it, even if he did die, I would be in deniel...]

yay! no dead Pryo!

Do you mean this in a "I don't like Scott" way? I quite like him. Well, movie him. I don't know the comics much (I've read an issue here and there years ago), and my little slasher heart keeps waving the "Scott/Long in love/hate 4ever!"

*sighs* Oh, Scott.

I mean this in an 'In the 22 years I've been reading the X-Men comics, I've never liked Scott Summers' way. *grin*

If I slash Logan, then I pair him with Victor or Kurt. Or Remy or Bobby for the pretty *g*

No, y'see, I would have let them leave and then followed them out of the cinema talking about the absolutely pivotal scene after the credits. Because I'm apparently evil like that ;)
