So, after The Great Dex Death of 2007 (in which one of my external HDs went the way of the dodo), I've decided to replace said deceased drive. Only, I can't decide what to go with.

So, the options are:

Freecom 500GB
Pros: Cheap, so I can buy a couple of them.
Cons: Dex was also a Freecom, so I'm a little hesitant.

Western Digital 750GB
Pros: Dude! 750GB!
Cons: I've had a couple of friends who've had the MyBook die on them (although, admitedly, at least one of those was after he'd knocked it over).

LaCie 500GB
Pros: Again, it's cheap.
Cons: Some of the reviews seem pretty terrible.

Help me, flist, you're my only hope...

I said I would add in comment, and this is me, adding:

I don't know which one is better!
But, buy one, so if it's good, when I have money, I will know what to buy!

*G*

The WD are usually good, but there's always the chance.

Seconded. (I'm one of the ones that hasn't a clue and relies on people like you to jump in first...)

Generally, with electronic equipment, you get what you pay for. If you're worried about quality, don't buy the cheapest one. (Not to say cheap can't be good. But the expensive ones are generally better.)

My external HD is Western Digital and I have quite a few friends who have WD drives, too. The current one I've never had a problem with and I'm fairly certain none of my friends have had problems either.

However, the first one I bought wouldn't work at all. Out of the box. But the best thing about WD is that they have a three year free warranty so I just sent them the drive and after a while they sent me a new one. This one is actually better than the drive I bought. The only real complaint I have about my current one is that at first it would only transfer 4 GBs at a time. Most people don't have files that big, but I'm a digital film major. It's really simple to set it up so that'll it save files larger than that, though.

And now, my thoughts on yaoi! ;D

I went with the WD cause I have it at work and good god, the abuse that machine takes is amazing. Also the best friend has it and she treats it worse than I do LOL.

I also have a freecom, but it's a small one, so not really able to tell you much about it :)

*edited: cause I can't type to save my life*
