So, a woman I work with has two giant African land snails and, due to them being sneaky buggers when she was cleaning out their tanks (they're kept in separate tanks normally) she ended up with eggs. Lots and lots of eggs.

Claire, says she, do you want a snail?

o_O, says me.

You thought Jeremy was cute, says she. (Jeremy being her three year old snail. And, yes, I may have been holding him on my hand telling him how adorable he was while other people looked on with wtf faces...))

O_o, says me.

Just thought I'd ask, says she.

O_O, says me.

?, says she.

Oh, I couldn't, says me. Well, go on then...

So, to cut a long story short, I has a snail!

Okay, well, not yet, I don't. The egg hatched at the weekend, but she's keeping him for a couple of weeks to make sure he's okay and then I'm bringing him home.

At which point you will get many pictures of my snail.

Who is called Spencer.

Yes, he is *nods*

::grin::

Eeee! Oh those snails are adorable!! A former housemate used to have a tank of them, I used to get given the task of feeding and misting them down when she was away. THough I have to say we were more ruthless - there were often little batches of eggs found in the corners during tank cleaning time. This would be resolved with kitchen down and a firm shove with the thumb, but she was a park ranger so I suppose culling was something she had no qualms with.

Anyway, looking forward to pics of Spencer!

Spencer and another were the only two she kept. The other eggs she got rid of, which I guess is all part of being a snail owner with more than one snail ;) I get Spencer and her kids want a third snail to call Ood (Jeremy and Matilda being their other two).

You are probably a very very bad influence. It took me about two years to persuade [livejournal.com profile] fledge that she doesn't want a snail (or, especially, a pair of snails) when her snake, who is past his sell-by date, dies.

A snail ... I'm sorry, I'm really trying, but it does not compute - how do you find a snail cute? Also trying to get over the fact that there are snails called Jeremy and Spencer ;).

I wish you much happiness with your snail. ;)

Jeremy was adorable. And their other snail, Matilda, was just a little diddy thing at three months old ::grin:: I shall show pictures, yes I shall, and you shall be converted to the snail love ;)
