DreamHost. Yay or Nay as a webhost?

I like them, I've never had a problem with them. They are also relatively cheap.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to go with them as a host.

I thought they did block people for posting illegal downloads and "porn" to their service that they found out. But I could be wrong.

I use TotalChoiceHosting and have been completely happy with them and find their services to be very affordable.

I know DH took down a whole of load of sites that were file-sharing, but I'm not sure if they hauled down slash archives as well, If they did, then it's a no brainer about not going with them. Ah, decisions, decisions...

Ooh, I'd never heard of TotalChoiceHosting but, looking at their website, they seem like a rather good choice. Hmmm... :D

I host with Dreamhost, and I heard about them from another LJer, and the reason I went with them was because in their TOS it says that as long as you don't associate your adult content with their name by use of their donate buttons, and it is not illegal (kiddie porn, etc.) it is allowed. I can't remember the specific wording, but I can try to find it for you.

Part of the reason I was thinking DH was because I know other people use them and have had no issues. I've got one of my archives with SlashCity at the moment, and though I'd had absolutely no problems with them, I can get far more space for the same amount of money at DH and have everything in one place :)

I've had DH for years now and haven't had any problems; not even any takedowns when I was sharing files back in the day. They're cheap and decent and the outages seem to be pretty rare.

Let me know if you want a discount code. I've got one set up that'll benefit both of us (though I'd have to look it up to be sure how much the benefit is).

I use both Dreamhost for my screencap galleries and Slashcity for the archives.

I haven't had problems with Dreamhost and, as noted, they're cheap. I do know they took down a whole bunch of filesharing sites a couple of years ago, but they're also who I use for my sharing, and I'm still there ::g:: Mind, I don't post links to comms, so my traffic is still fairly low.

I haven't, however, used them in conjunction with eFiction. I do know that eFiction can be quite intensive from a CPU usage point of view, and it's that as much as the bandwidth that has led to some hosts cancelling accounts that host archives. I haven't heard anything like that about Dreamhost and given the archive you're running, I can't imagine it will end up being CPU intensive, being so small.

It might be worth checking over on the eFiction.org forums to see if anyone has anything bad to say about them from an archive hosting point of view, but I haven't got any concerns.

DH is just fine for fannish sites and stuff, though they have enough issues I won't use them for something work-related. But I haven't had a problem with them (knock on wood) and I've had an account there for...three years?

I decided to go with them, as it's just for the my webpage and maybe a couple of others :)
